notes

from Dreamways of the Iroquois by Robert Moss

"...An old Inuit woman on Little Diomede Island explained to a Danish anthropologist that powerful spirits - like the spirit of the whale - must be summoned by 'fresh words.'... 'Worn-out songs' should never be used when you are trying to call on important spirits, she explained."

Ball Lightning, Corpse Candles, and Weird Flying Humanoids

Ancient UFOs on a deadly mission
supernatural lights said to appear in the homes of the dying or be seen floating down country lanes at night, making their way to the parish burial ground along the same route subsequently taken by a funeral.

One year the area around Barmouth became famous for mysterious lights in the sky - what today we might call UFOs, but which the inhabitants back then considered death omens. The Barmouth lights achieved a lot more attention than the usual stories because they coincided with a major religious revival

Dead Sheep, Genius Kid, Urine in the Holy Water

450 Sheep Jump to Thier Death
ISTANBUL, Turkey -- First one sheep jumped to its death. Then stunned Turkish shepherds, who had left the herd to graze while they had breakfast, watched as nearly 1,500 others followed, each leaping off the same cliff, Turkish media reported.

In the end, 450 dead animals lay on top of one another in a billowy white pile, the Aksam newspaper said. Those who jumped later were saved as the pile got higher and the fall more cushioned, Aksam reported

Freeman asks: "Is this kid the antichrist?" Bringing Up Genius
Greg was delivered by C-section, plump and healthy. Janet swears that his newborn photograph shows him with his tiny finger pressed against his temple. Just a few hours old, Greg seemed lost in thought already.

At home with their new baby, the Smiths quickly noticed that Greg was showing developmental skills well beyond his age. Instead of batting at the nursery animals twirling on the mobile over his crib the way most infants do, Greg was grabbing them and examining them. At 3 months old, he said, "Dada"; other words and then full sentences quickly followed. He could recite memorized books before his first birthday, and read on his own not long after that. He solved arithmetic problems at 14 months. At 2, he was reading about dinosaurs and chatting knowledgeably about the Cretaceous Period. He observed that people had flat teeth, like plant-eating dinosaurs, and concluded that human beings must be herbivores, not carnivores. He persuaded his family to become vegetarians.

The Smiths never drilled Greg. "We never did flashcards with him or anything like that," Janet recalls. There was no Mozart-in-the-womb or special vitamins or IQ-boosting diet. His parents refused any social invitations that didn't include Greg. His father would take him on hikes in the woods and talk about photosynthesis and the ecosystem, using words he thought Greg could understand. "He would ask back smart questions."
Here's his blog, Here's his biography
